Each tasting is a custom event designed to meet the goal and budget of the sponsor. Advice on Scotch, and event flexibility, is provided at every step.
The Scotch Tasting itself is an opportunity to gather together to learn about and discuss the many aspects of Scotch Whisky. From the various regions of Scotland, to the impact of distillation techniques and the wondrous exploration of the flavors and subtleties imparted by the oak barrels in which it sleeps.
A tasting typically includes a sampling of three or more Scotches, of your choice, having various flavor profiles, conducted as an informative as well as enjoyable social event.
Approximately 60 minutes in length, participants learn how grain, water, oak, and time become Scotch and how the various component parts influence the aroma, taste, and enjoyment of each Scotch.
A tasting gives experienced participants an opportunity to fill in missing information in their knowledge of Scotch. And, for the novice, can be an eye-opening introduction to the finer points of Scotch appreciation.
If your group might include the uninitiated or reluctant, I can even recommend a Scotch for people who "hate Scotch" (or as I like to say, people who have not yet truly discovered Scotch.)
A Scotch Tasting can be incorporated into any type of meeting or social event. But to be clear - The Scotch Tasting itself is NOT a cocktail party. No impaired guests will be served at the tasting. Under no circumstances will an underage participant be allowed at the tasting table.
A tasting has a fairly set duration, lasting about an hour. It has a purpose, a beginning, a middle, and an end. The "Scotch Ambassador" is not a costumed bartender serving Scotch for the evening. But rather an educator and guide for the duration of the tasting - with a specific role: to inform, entertain, and ensure everyone is having a great time.
Scotch consumption during the tasting itself is limited to quantities necessary and sufficient to enjoy a good and proper tasting.
If the tasting is part of a more comprehensive event, lasting well into the evening, the Ambassador's role and responsibility generally remains limited to the Scotch Tasting only.
Arrangements can be made for a longer less formal tasting called a flow event.
